Police onfirm the mysterious deaths of five members of a family in Abia.

Police in Abia State have verified the unexplained deaths of five members of one household in Umuimo, Osisioma Ngwa LGA. The victims ;Mr. Kachi Nnabugwu, his wife Chinaza, and their three children — were found dead inside their residence on Tuesday after several days of no contact.

The matter was reported to the Osisioma Divisional Police Headquarters by the deceased’s brother, DSP Maureen Chinaka said. She explained that on July 22, 2026, the brother visited the Umuimo Village home after being unable to reach Kachi Nnabugwu.

When knocking produced no answer, they forced the door and discovered decomposing bodies. Detectives have attended the scene and launched inquiries.

A preliminary visual examination was carried out, photographs were taken, and the remains were conveyed to the morgue for preservation and autopsy, Chinaka added.

Residents said the family had last been seen on Saturday, July 18, and neighbors, aided by others, forced entry when efforts to contact them failed.

During the search, containers of leftover food and a generator were observed inside the house. The corpses were later moved to a mortuary.

A social media video shows community members conducting traditional rites following the discovery, but the cause of the deaths remains undetermined as police continue their investigation.
