Promises federal opportunities, youth empowerment, agricultural support, accessible representation.
The All Progressives Congress senatorial candidate for Oyo North, Mrs Hannah Olawumi Ogunesan, has unveiled her policy agenda for the district ahead of the 2027 general election.
Ogunesan, a former Head of Service, said her vision was to build a prosperous, inclusive and empowered Oyo North where residents would have greater access to opportunities, quality representation and sustainable development.
The APC candidate, who is listed among the final senatorial candidates for Oyo North, said her mission would be anchored on what she described as compassionate, transparent and people-centred representation.
She identified her core values as compassion, character and capacity, saying she would use her experience and competence to attract federal programmes and development projects to the senatorial district.
Ogunesan said her objectives included facilitating federal opportunities, promoting youth employment and entrepreneurship, supporting women and vulnerable groups, improving agriculture and rural development, encouraging education and skills acquisition and strengthening partnerships with traditional and community leaders.
She also pledged to advocate better infrastructure, healthcare and security across Oyo North.
On youth and students, the candidate promised to promote access to federal scholarships, student-loan information, information and communication technology skills, internship opportunities, entrepreneurship programmes and job information centres.
She said her proposed engagements with young people would include campus visits, career seminars, debate competitions and digital skills workshops.
For farmers, Ogunesan promised to advocate fertiliser support, improved seedlings, farm mechanisation, irrigation projects, agricultural grants, better rural roads and access to agricultural financing.
She also proposed farmers’ forums, farm visits and agricultural town hall meetings as part of her engagement with the sector.
The former civil servant said artisans, including mechanics, tailors, welders, hairdressers, carpenters and bricklayers, would be supported through skills certification, equipment financing, business grants, cooperative development and vocational training.
Ogunesan further promised to advocate medical outreaches, food support, free eye screening and community welfare assistance for elderly and vulnerable residents.
On federal intervention, she said she would work to attract student loans, scholarships, youth empowerment programmes, agricultural support schemes, skills acquisition programmes, small-business financing, rural electrification, water projects, road rehabilitation, healthcare improvements, ICT innovation centres and constituency development projects to the district.
She also outlined a community engagement strategy involving town hall meetings, market outreach, community health programmes, educational support, business development seminars, women’s empowerment initiatives, youth career programmes, agricultural forums, environmental sanitation campaigns, sports competitions and talent-discovery programmes.
Ogunesan said she would establish an open feedback mechanism through regular town hall meetings, functional constituency offices, stakeholder engagements and digital communication platforms.
She said her aspiration was not merely to seek votes but to build a movement focused on creating opportunities, restoring hope and ensuring that communities across Oyo North had a voice in the National Assembly.
