An APC chieftain in Oyo State, Elder David Oluokun, has faulted criticisms of the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi by the gubernatorial candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Bimbo Adekanbi, arguing that the former finance commissioner lacks the moral standing to discredit an administration in which he served.
In a statement titled “Why Bimbo Adekanbi Has No Moral Right to Criticize Senator Ajimobi’s Legacy,” Oluokun contended that Adekanbi, who served as Commissioner for Finance during Ajimobi’s administration between 2011 and 2019, was a key member of the cabinet and should therefore share responsibility for the government’s policies and decisions.
According to him, “You cannot bite the hand that fed you and then claim to be a reformer. If there were shortcomings in that administration, he had every opportunity to raise concerns while serving in government.”
The APC stalwart further alleged that Adekanbi’s emergence as the APM governorship candidate was orchestrated by Governor Seyi Makinde, describing him as a “handpicked candidate” rather than a product of a grassroots political process.
He also challenged the former finance commissioner to publicly account for his stewardship in office, including his role in the state’s financial management, budget implementation, and policy formulation during the Ajimobi administration.
Oluokun maintained that Oyo residents deserve answers to what he described as “unresolved questions” before entrusting Adekanbi with the state’s leadership.
Defending the legacy of the late former governor, Oluokun described Ajimobi as one of Oyo State’s most impactful leaders, citing his administration’s urban renewal initiatives, security reforms, educational policies, and investment drive.
He argued that while no administration is beyond criticism, attempts to diminish Ajimobi’s achievements by a former cabinet member were “inconsistent and disrespectful” to the late governor’s legacy.
Calling on voters to scrutinise the records of governorship aspirants, Oluokun said Oyo State requires leadership founded on integrity, consistency, and accountability.
