The immediate past Minister of Power and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has rejected the alleged endorsement of Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking in Ibadan on Saturday during a meeting with APC leaders, stakeholders, and members of Ibadan South-East Local Government, Adelabu insisted that the selection of the party’s candidate must be conducted through direct primary, in line with what he described as the democratic preference of party leadership.
He warned that any attempt to impose a consensus candidate without full consultation of stakeholders and aspirants could create divisions within the party and weaken its chances ahead of the 2027 elections.
Adelabu also dismissed the endorsement process, describing it as undemocratic and lacking legitimacy, cautioning that it could lead to internal disputes and possible legal challenges.
According to him, the APC must prioritize unity and fairness in its internal processes to maintain strength and credibility ahead of the polls.
Reaffirming his ambition, Adelabu expressed confidence in securing the party’s ticket through a transparent primary election and ultimately winning the governorship seat in 2027.
He urged party members and supporters across Oyo State to remain steadfast, assuring that his administration would deliver meaningful development if elected governor.
