Former Minister of Power and leading figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebayo Adelabu, on Tuesday formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, unveiling a comprehensive development blueprint aimed at repositioning the state for economic growth and social transformation.
Adelabu, who addressed party leaders, supporters, and political associates in Ibadan, said his ambition was driven by the need to deliver purposeful leadership and people-oriented governance capable of restoring the state’s economic vitality and creating sustainable opportunities for residents.
The governorship aspirant described the unveiling of the “Oyo Rebirth Agenda” as the beginning of a broad political movement designed to rebuild institutions, strengthen governance, and place the state on the path of accelerated development.
The proposed agenda focuses on grassroots development through efficient local government administration, improved security architecture, agricultural transformation, and enhanced public safety.
Other critical sectors highlighted in the blueprint include education, healthcare, urban renewal, civil service reforms, social welfare programmes, youth engagement, and women empowerment.
Adelabu stressed the need for governance that delivers measurable results and practical solutions to socio-economic challenges confronting the people of the state.
He also emphasised leadership qualities such as competence, character, compassion, and courage as essential ingredients for effective governance and sustainable development.
The former minister presented himself as a prepared and experienced leader committed to service, progressive ideals, and the delivery of tangible outcomes across all sectors of the state economy.
He further called for unity within the APC in Oyo State, urging party leaders, stakeholders, and members to work collectively toward securing victory in the next governorship election.
According to him, unity, discipline, and party cohesion remain crucial to the APC’s electoral success and future political relevance in the state.
The declaration ceremony attracted party faithful, political support groups, community leaders, and APC chieftains from across the state, many of whom expressed optimism about the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 polls.
The event also featured the formal presentation of the “Oyo Rebirth Agenda,” which outlines Adelabu’s vision for inclusive governance, economic expansion, infrastructure renewal, and institutional reforms aimed at improving the living conditions of residents.
