A group of concerned members of the Oke Ogun Obas and Chiefs Association has passed a vote of no confidence in the Chairman of the association and Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola David Ajirotutu Adeyeri IV, over allegations of maladministration and actions allegedly capable of undermining the integrity of the traditional institution in Oke Ogun.
The resolution was reached during an emergency meeting held on Tuesday at the palace of the Onjo of Okeho in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the monarchs stated that the gathering was convened to deliberate on “critical issues bordering on the administration of the association and other related public matters capable of denting the image, dignity, ethics, and respected cultural heritage of the Oke Ogun traditional institution inherited from our forefathers.”
The concerned monarchs accused the Aseyin of Iseyin of conduct allegedly inconsistent with the values, ethics, and traditions expected of a traditional ruler in Oke Ogun.
According to the communiqué, members alleged that the chairman had been using the association’s name and official instruments for personal interests while acting without the consent or approval of the executive council.
The monarchs specifically alleged that the Aseyin obtained the association’s official letterhead from the secretary under what they described as “false pretence” and subsequently wrote to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, without the knowledge or authorisation of the association’s executive council.
They further accused him of unilaterally postponing the association’s meeting earlier scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2026, to June 25, 2026, without consultation or ratification by executive members.
The monarchs stated that the decisions reached at the emergency meeting were aimed at preventing another round of internal crisis within the association, noting that the body was only recently recovering from years of factionalisation and division.
Consequently, the meeting resolved that a vote of no confidence be passed on the Aseyin of Iseyin as chairman of the association.
The monarchs also directed that he should no longer parade himself or represent the association in any official or unofficial capacity pending further resolutions.
In addition, the meeting resolved that the immediate past chairman of the association, the Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Oyedepo III, should assume oversight of the association’s administration alongside other executive members indefinitely.
The gathering further resolved that the ongoing amalgamation and restructuring of the association, including the drafting of its constitution, should continue without interruption.
Among the monarchs present at the meeting were the Onigbeti of Igbeti, Oba Bashir Abioye; Ajoriwin of Irawo, Oba Musiliudeen Olalere; Elero of Ilero, Oba Wasiu Saka; Olu-Igbo of Igbojaye, Oba Olatunji Oladimeji; Oloje of Oje-Owode, Oba Abdrasheed Olagbenro; and the Onitede of Tede, Oba Abdul Rauf Adebimpe.
Others in attendance included the Onjo of Okeho, Oba Rafiu Osuolale Mustapha Adeitan; Aare of Ofiki, Oba Gbenga Adigun Adeoye Oyetunji Oyinlola II; Oloto of Ago-Aare, Oba Omofewa; Onigbope, Oba Moses Oyetola; Bagiìjàn of Ilaji-Ile, Oba Lawal Oyeleye; and the Onidiko of Idiko-Ile, Oba Nicolas Oyelami Folaranmi.
Also present were the Alageere of Ago-Aare, Oba Azeez Oyetunde; Alageere of Ofiki, Oba Bashir Oyesiji; Ona-Onibode of Igboho, Oba Rasheed Jayesola; and the Oni Baasi, Oba Sunday Babatunde, among others.
