Fresh political undercurrents are emerging within the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a strategic meeting between the party’s national leadership and state executives in Abuja, amid growing speculation that consensus candidates may have been penciled down ahead of the 2027 electoral season.

The high-level engagement, held on Tuesday evening, was reportedly part of broader efforts by the APC leadership to consolidate party structures and avoid the kind of internal divisions that have weakened opposition parties in previous elections.
Sources familiar with the discussions disclosed to Oyo Insight that ,the meeting focused largely on the adoption of a consensus-driven political framework, a model already gaining traction in states like Lagos and Ogun, where party leaders are said to be prioritizing negotiations and alignments over rancorous primary contests.
According to Oyo Insight, Insiders hinted that beyond general consultations, conversations may have extended to the possible emergence of preferred candidates for key elective offices in Oyo State ahead of next year’s political activities.
The development has, however, sparked quiet concerns among some stakeholders and aspirants who fear that the consensus arrangement could narrow the space for competitive primaries and grassroots participation within the party.
Observers believe the outcome of the Abuja talks may generate mixed reactions within the party, especially as some governorship aspirants have already publicly declared their ambitions ahead of the 2027 race.
Recall that Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Tuesday officially declared his governorship ambition, while Senator Buhari Abdulfatai also made his intention known on Monday during a meeting at the APC state secretariat in Ibadan.
Political analysts say the latest development may shape the internal dynamics of the party in the coming months, particularly as aspirants and their supporters await clarity on whether the APC will fully adopt consensus arrangements or allow an open contest for party tickets.
Those present at the Abuja meeting included Oyo APC chairman, Moses Alake Adeyemo; secretary, Fatai Adesina Adeniyi; vice chairman, Lamidi Taofeek; publicity secretary, Olawale Sadare; organizing secretary, Aderemi Adepoju; legal adviser, Sunday Aborisade; woman leader, Adekemi Opatunde; youth leader, Olalekan Oladejo; alongside senatorial and local government party leaders.
Although no official communiqué was released after the meeting, the outcome has continued to generate discussions within political circles, with many party faithful keenly watching how the APC balances internal consensus with democratic participation ahead of the crucial elections.
