Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District, formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with a pledge to strengthen local government autonomy and improve the welfare of workers and pensioners.
The declaration was made on Friday in Ibadan, where party loyalists, supporters, and key stakeholders gathered to witness the announcement.
Addressing the audience, Alli outlined his governance priorities, emphasizing a commitment to ensuring that local governments operate independently to drive development at the grassroots level. He stated that his administration, if elected, would guarantee the prompt payment of salaries and pensions, describing workers and retirees as critical stakeholders in the state’s progress.
“I will grant full autonomy to local governments to function effectively. Salaries will be paid as and when due, and our pensioners will receive their entitlements without delay,” he said.
The senator stressed the importance of responsive and accountable leadership, noting that governance must reflect a clear understanding of the challenges faced by citizens. He added that empowering local councils would enhance service delivery and bring governance closer to the people.
Alli’s declaration signals the beginning of political positioning ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State, with his campaign expected to focus on institutional reforms and social welfare.
