APM Candidate ,Adebayo Empowers Farmers, Seeks to Reposition Saki as Oyo’s Agricultural Hub

In a deliberate effort to reinvigorate agricultural productivity and restore Saki’s historical prominence as the food basket of Oyo State, the Majority Leader of the Saki West Legislative Arm and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) House of Assembly candidate, Hon. Salaudeen Kabeer Adebayo, has distributed improved, high-yield seedlings to farmers across wards of Saki West LGA.

The agricultural empowerment initiative, held at the National Union of Teachers (NUT) House in Saki, attracted an impressive gathering of farmers, political stakeholders, youth groups, and community representatives, all united by a shared commitment to advancing food security and sustainable rural development.

Addressing participants, Hon. Kabeer described agriculture as the indispensable fulcrum upon which the socio-economic prosperity of Saki rests, maintaining that strategic investments in farmers remain the most pragmatic pathway to mitigating food insecurity, alleviating poverty, expanding employment opportunities, and catalysing broad-based economic transformation.

According to him, the intervention his enduring philosophy of people-centred leadership and represents another milestone in his unwavering commitment to fostering inclusive rural development through impactful and sustainable initiatives.

He explained that the overarching objective of the programme is not merely to improve crop yields but to facilitate the renaissance of Saki’s agricultural heritage and restore the town’s long-established reputation as the foremost food-producing hub in Oyo State.

“Our aspiration is to equip our farmers with the requisite resources to maximise their productivity. Agriculture remains the cornerstone of economic prosperity, and by empowering our farmers, we are investing in food sufficiency, wealth creation, and the sustainable future of our communities. I therefore urge every beneficiary to utilise these improved seedlings judiciously in order to realise bumper harvests,” he stated.

The lawmaker emphasised that only verified and active farmers were selected as beneficiaries to ensure that the improved seedlings are deployed for their intended purpose and deliver optimal agricultural output.

Stakeholders at the event lauded Hon. Kabeer for sustaining developmental interventions despite prevailing economic headwinds, noting that his humanitarian disposition predates his political aspirations.

They observed that through his non-governmental organisation, Hope Never Dies, he has consistently championed initiatives aimed at empowering youths, women, farmers, and other vulnerable members of society, describing the latest agricultural intervention as a testament to visionary leadership anchored on sustainable community advancement rather than transient political expediency.

The stakeholders further urged beneficiaries to cultivate the seedlings instead of selling them, stressing that enhanced agricultural productivity would strengthen household incomes, improve food availability, stabilise market prices, and contribute significantly to ongoing efforts to moderate inflationary pressures nationwide.

Several beneficiaries described the empowerment programme as both timely and transformative, particularly in view of the escalating cost of agricultural inputs confronting rural farmers. They commended Hon. Kabeer for his unwavering support for the farming community and pledged to utilise the improved seedlings effectively to boost production during the 2026 farming season.

The programme culminated in the distribution of the improved seedlings to beneficiaries, reinforcing renewed optimism that the initiative will stimulate agricultural expansion, bolster food security, enhance rural livelihoods, and accelerate the restoration of Saki’s enviable status as one of Oyo State’s foremost agricultural powerhouses.
