Aare of Ago-Are Hails Release of Oriire Abductees, Commends Makinde, Security Agencies

The Aare of Ago-Are Kingdom, Oba Dr. Abodunrin Oyetunji Kofoworola Olakanla II, has expressed gratitude over the safe release of the abducted victims from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the development as “a moment of relief, gratitude and renewed commitment to security.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday and made available to 𝗜𝗧𝗩 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 ,the monarch commended the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their efforts in securing the victims’ freedom.

“It is with profound gratitude to Almighty God and a deep sense of relief that I receive the heartening news of the safe release of the abducted citizens from Oriire Local Government,” the traditional ruler said.

Oba Olakanla gave special recognition to Governor Seyi Makinde, praising his commitment throughout the period of the victims’ captivity.

“The Governor’s responsiveness, sustained engagement with security stakeholders, and unwavering determination to see the victims regain their freedom exemplify compassionate and responsible leadership,” he said, adding that Makinde’s concern for the victims reflected “a government that places immense value on the safety and wellbeing of its citizens.”

The monarch noted that the successful rescue had renewed public confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions, stressing that the operation demonstrated the importance of courage, professionalism and inter-agency collaboration in tackling insecurity.

While celebrating the release of the abductees, Oba Olakanla warned that kidnapping and other violent crimes remained serious threats to communities and urged authorities not to relent in the fight against criminality.

“The scourge of kidnapping and other violent crimes continues to pose a grave challenge to the security and wellbeing of our communities. It is therefore my earnest appeal that the resolve, vigilance and operational momentum that culminated in this success be sustained and further strengthened,” he said.

He called on governments at all levels, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and residents to strengthen collaboration in intelligence gathering, community surveillance and other proactive security measures.

“As custodians of our people’s heritage and wellbeing, traditional rulers remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting all lawful efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property,” the monarch added.

Oba Olakanla also offered prayers for the rescued victims and their families, as well as security personnel involved in the operation, praying for lasting peace across Oke-Ogun, Oyo State and Nigeria.
