The Oyo State Chapter of the Association of Rural Surgical Practitioners of Nigeria (ARSPON) has announced plans to hold its Ogbomoso Zonal Surgical Outreach/Workshop as part of efforts to improve access to quality surgical care and strengthen the capacity of healthcare professionals in rural communities.
The three-day programme is scheduled to take place from Friday, July 17 to Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Ireti-Olu Hospital, Apake, Ogbomoso.
According to the Media Officer of the Association, Salam Saheed,the outreach will provide free hernia and lump surgeries for indigent patients in Ogbomoso and neighbouring communities. The initiative is aimed at reducing the burden of untreated surgical conditions among underserved populations.
The workshop will also feature a series of Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions for medical practitioners, with participants eligible to earn 10 CME credit points.
Topics lined up for discussion include Minimizing Post-Operative Sepsis Beyond Cut and Drains; Impact of Insecurity on Rural Medical Practice, Medicolegal Realities in Nigeria: Strategies for Protecting Medical Practice in High-Risk Environments; Lassa Fever Outbreaks and control strategies, as well as Sustaining Private Medical Practice amid the Rising Cost of Medical Resources and Equipment.
The organisers said the programme is expected to bring together surgeons, medical doctors and other healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge, enhance clinical skills and promote best practices in rural surgical care.
