Barr. Akeem Adedeji Agbaje, frontline gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State for the 2027 election, has expressed deep sympathy to traders and business owners affected by the devastating fire incident that ravaged sections of the popular Bode Market in Ibadan in the early hours of Friday.
In a statement, Agbaje described the incident as a painful setback for hundreds of hardworking traders and families whose daily livelihoods depend on the market, noting that the losses suffered by many victims would undoubtedly have significant economic and emotional consequences.
The APC chieftain said the unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the need to strengthen emergency response systems and adopt proactive measures that would help prevent similar occurrences in major markets across the state.
“The fire outbreak at Bode Market is deeply saddening. My thoughts and prayers are with every trader and business owner who has suffered losses as a result of this unfortunate incident. For many families, these businesses represent years of hard work, sacrifice, and their primary means of livelihood. I share in their pain during this difficult period,” Agbaje stated.
He commended the efforts of the emergency responders, including the Oyo State Fire Service and other agencies, whose prompt intervention helped to contain the inferno and prevent further destruction.
Agbaje also appealed to the Oyo State Government, relevant agencies, and well-meaning individuals to provide the necessary support and relief to those affected to enable them recover from the incident and rebuild their businesses.
“I encourage the relevant authorities to assess the extent of the damage and provide every necessary assistance to the affected traders. I also urge market stakeholders to continue promoting safety measures that can reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future. My prayer is that Almighty God grants everyone affected the strength to overcome this painful experience and restore all that has been lost, and protects every trader and resident from such unfortunate incidents in the future.”
