A youth group under the aegis of Eruwa Progressive Youths has declared support for Otunba Masolanu Adeolu ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency in Oyo State.
In a statement signed by its Secretary and made available to newsmen, Comrade Razak Adelodun, the group said it had been closely monitoring political developments surrounding the APC primary and concluded that Masolanu stood out among all aspirants seeking the party’s ticket.
According to the group, Masolanu, an indigene of Eruwa, has demonstrated “readiness and preparedness” to represent the constituency at the House of Representatives.
The statement noted that the aspirant had maintained a strong physical and media presence since declaring his intention to contest, adding that his activities and programmes were visible and easily accessible to party members and residents.
The youths also described Masolanu as a successful entrepreneur, grassroots politician and philanthropist whose political influence extends beyond Ibarapa East into Ido Local Government Area.
They further cited his consultations across the constituency and the branding of campaign vehicles as indications of seriousness and organisational preparedness.
The group revealed that some of its members recently accompanied the aspirant to inspect a facility he reportedly plans to convert into a vocational training centre if elected.
“This is to further confirm his readiness for the job,” the statement read.
Eruwa Progressive Youths also expressed concern over what it described as “dangerous but unfounded rumours” regarding an alleged predetermined list of candidates for the APC primary.
While acknowledging that the Electoral Act recognises consensus as a legitimate mode of candidate selection, the group stressed that the process must comply with the provisions of the law.
It maintained that where consensus fails, direct primary election remains the only valid alternative.
The group therefore urged the leadership of the APC in Oyo State to ensure strict adherence to due process and the provisions of the Electoral Act in selecting the party’s candidate for the constituency.
“We will support every decision of the party once due process is allowed,” the statement added.
The youths described Masolanu’s ambition as “a movement” driven by community support and expressed confidence that the party leadership would ensure a transparent process in the emergence of its candidate for the Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency.
