From Faaja to Agodi-Straight: Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin Demonstrates Uncommon Leadership

By Prof. Abideen Olaitan Olaiya

I watched with keen interest the address delivered by Distinguished Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin (TKF) while speaking to his loyalists, supporters, and party leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State upon his return from the assignment entrusted to him in the Presidential Campaign Council of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

As someone who has consistently advocated peace, unity, and reconciliation within our great party, I am delighted that Distinguished Senator Folarin has thrown his weight behind Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli. This is a welcome development in our collective efforts to strengthen unity and foster understanding among party stakeholders.

Two things, in particular, stood out for me in his address.

First, his sincerity in expressing his grievances and explaining why he felt aggrieved. He acknowledged his feelings openly and made it clear that, under the circumstances, it was understandable for anyone in his position to feel hurt. This honesty reflects the reality of political contests, where disagreements and disappointments are sometimes inevitable.

Second, his acknowledgement of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli as a good politician. Despite whatever differences may have existed, Senator Folarin was able to recognise and appreciate the political qualities of another party leader. This is an important demonstration of maturity and a willingness to look beyond personal grievances in the interest of the larger political family.

These two elements of his speech, in my view, underscore the importance of dialogue, mutual respect, and reconciliation in building a stronger APC in Oyo State. His decision to extend support to Senator Alli, despite his expressed grievances, is a step that deserves commendation.

I therefore commend Distinguished Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin for this bold step and wish him, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, all our candidates, and the entire APC family success in our collective political endeavours.

Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin has demonstrated that disagreements need not be permanent barriers to unity. His conduct offers a valuable reminder that true party cohesion requires the willingness of leaders to acknowledge their differences and work towards a common purpose.

Senator Folarin, you have shown leadership in a manner worthy of recognition. I sincerely commend you.

I look forward to similar gestures from others who share similar grievances.
