The Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUNATO) has called on members of the public including musicians, poets, and creative writers to submit entries for the composition of its official university anthem, in what the institution describes as part of efforts to strengthen identity and institutional pride.
In a circular signed by the Registrar, Mr. Mohammed Olaiya Aminu, the university announced that submissions are currently being received and will close on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

The initiative, according to the circular, is open and competitive, aimed at producing an anthem that captures the institution’s vision and academic philosophy, particularly its focus on integrating agriculture with technology.
Established as a specialised institution, is positioning itself as a forward-looking university dedicated to innovation in agricultural sciences and technological advancement.
The circular outlined specific requirements for the proposed anthem, stating that entries must be “philosophical and visionary,” reflecting the university’s mission of blending agriculture with technology to drive sustainable development.
It also stressed that submissions should be concise, memorable, and capable of inspiring pride and belonging among members of the university community. The anthem, it added, must be composed in English, though applicants are encouraged to incorporate local cultural essence where appropriate.
While the primary focus of the call is on written lyrics, the university noted that submissions may also include musical scores or audio recordings in MP3 format, particularly where applicants have developed accompanying melodies.
Entries are to be submitted electronically via email to registrar@funato.edu.ng, with applicants expected to include full contact details and a brief personal profile alongside their work.
The circular also reaffirmed the leadership structure of the institution, naming as Vice-Chancellor and Mr. Mohammed Olaiya Aminu as Registrar.
University officials say the anthem project is part of broader efforts to build a strong institutional culture as FUNATO continues to establish itself within Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
With just days left before the submission deadline, interest is expected to rise among creatives seeking to contribute to what will become a key symbol of the university’s identity.
The selection process and judging criteria have not yet been fully disclosed, but the university is expected to review entries after the closing date before announcing a winning composition.
