The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for chairman of Saki West Local Government, Alhaji Lateef Sarafadeen Abiola, popularly known as Onijo, has identified good road networks as a major driver of economic growth and improved living standards.
Onijo spoke while inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation of the road linking Igbooro and Ogidigbo, explaining that the intervention was part of his contribution towards addressing pressing needs in the community.
He said the road had been in poor condition for years, creating difficulties for residents, motorists and traders who rely on the route for their daily activities.
According to him, improving access would ease the movement of people and goods while creating a more conducive environment for commercial activities.
He said the initiative also reflected the community-oriented leadership he intends to provide if elected chairman of the council, promising to give priority to infrastructure and programmes that directly affect residents.
The APM Public Relations Officer, Sarafadeen Salaudeen, commended the candidate for taking the initiative before assuming office.
Salaudeen said the gesture demonstrated Onijo’s willingness to translate his political aspirations into practical action, urging residents to support the APM and its candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Also speaking, the community secretary, Waliulahi Imran, expressed appreciation for the intervention, saying it would reduce the hardship faced by road users, particularly those whose businesses depend on the route.
Imran appealed to individuals, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to support efforts to address other challenges confronting the community, stressing that infrastructure development required collective responsibility.
Salaudeen also listed some of Onijo’s activities since his emergence as the APM chairmanship candidate, including mobilising support for the party, branding a vehicle for campaign activities, honouring notable political figures and launching “Operation Keep the Roads Clean”.
He described the initiatives as part of what Onijo calls “testing the microphone” ahead of the 2027 elections.
“If this is what Onijo can achieve while testing the microphone, imagine what Saki West will experience when he takes the microphone fully,” Salaudeen said.
The campaign team said its message was anchored on action, welfare and security, describing the APM as “the movement for change.”
