“I Was Offered a Bribe”-Oyo Speaker Breaks Silence on Alleged Plot Against Seyi Makinde

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has firmly denied allegations that he received financial inducement from proxies of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to facilitate the impeachment of Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the claims as false and politically motivated.

Addressing the controversy, Ogundoyin stated that no money exchanged hands at any meeting, insisting that the allegations were fabricated to tarnish his reputation and create instability within both the state government and legislature.

However, the Speaker disclosed that he had indeed been approached with a monetary inducement, which he said he rejected outright.

“I was offered monetary inducement, but I declined without hesitation because no amount of money can buy my conscience or compromise my loyalty to the Governor, the party, and the people we were elected to serve,” he said.

Ogundoyin emphasized his commitment to preserving the integrity of the Assembly and distancing himself from any actions capable of destabilizing the administration. He reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Makinde and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that he would not betray the mandate entrusted to him by the electorate.

He further assured that no political maneuvering would succeed in creating division between him and the governor or derail the administration’s agenda.

The Speaker also reiterated that under his leadership, the Assembly remains dedicated to constitutional governance, accountability, and the broader interests of the people of Oyo State. He added that he has consistently maintained open communication with Governor Makinde in all official engagements.

Addressing separate claims linking his recent visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, to alleged political scheming, Ogundoyin clarified that the visit was purely traditional and consultative.

According to him, the meeting took place weeks earlier and was intended to inform the monarch of his governorship ambition and seek royal blessings, in line with customary practice.

He urged the public to disregard what he described as unfounded narratives aimed at sowing discord within the state’s political leadership.
