Insecurity: Oba of Benin summons traditional doctors, priests, and others.

The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has called for an urgent meeting with native doctors, traditional priests, and priestesses regarding the escalating security issues in Edo and Nigeria.

This information was shared in a statement issued by Chief Victor Nosakhare on behalf of Frank Irabor, the Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council, on Friday.

The statement indicated that the meeting is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the Oba’s Palace.

The palace emphasized that this meeting is convened under the authority of Oba Ewuare II and should be treated with the highest priority.

The purpose of the meeting is to explore traditional methods to support government initiatives in addressing insecurity.

In a related matter, the Benin Traditional Council will meet with youth leaders, referred to as Okaighele, the following day, Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the same time and location, as stated in another announcement from the palace.

This development indicates the palace’s engagement as traditional institutions seek to assist security forces in response to the increasing incidents of kidnapping and cult-related violence in the region.
