Ogbomoso Shuts Down as Buhari Unveils Massive Empowerment Package to Oyo Residents

Thousands of residents across Oyo State on Thursday benefited from a N5 billion empowerment programme facilitated by Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, in what stakeholders described as one of the largest constituency interventions in the state.

The initiative, tagged Renewed BAFHOPE Mega Empowerment Programme and Constituency Briefing, was held at the Soun Stadium in Ogbomoso, drawing a large crowd that included political leaders, traditional rulers, party faithful, artisans, traders, youths, and women groups from Oyo North Senatorial District.

The programme, now in its fifth edition, saw the distribution of hundreds of items aimed at supporting small businesses and improving livelihoods. These included 200 motorcycles, 500 sewing machines, 500 grinding machines, 150 deep freezers, 100 generators, and 40 vehicles, alongside cash grants valued in billions of naira.

Speaking at the event, Buhari said the intervention was part of ongoing efforts to stimulate economic activities at the grassroots, reduce unemployment, and promote self-reliance among constituents.

He noted that economic empowerment remains a critical tool in addressing poverty and fostering sustainable development, adding that his office would continue to prioritise programmes that directly impact citizens.

The senator also presented a constituency briefing, outlining projects executed across Oyo North in areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth development, and social welfare.

Beneficiaries who spoke at the event described the initiative as impactful, with many saying the support would enhance their businesses and improve household incomes.

The event also took on a political tone, as some supporters called on the lawmaker to contest the Oyo State governorship seat in 2027, citing his performance and grassroots engagement.

Traditional rulers commended the senator’s efforts, with the Aseyin of Iseyin, Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III, describing the programme as a significant contribution to the welfare of the people.

“It shows a clear commitment to the development of Oyo North and the wellbeing of its residents,” the monarch said.

The event was attended by party stakeholders, community leaders, youth organisations, and women groups from across the senatorial district.
