The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, has called for urgent police action following the killing of a community leader by suspected armed herders in Oyo State.
The victim, Chief Mutairu Oladosu, a 47-year-old Otun Balogun of Oluode Okelade, was reportedly attacked and killed while working on his tomato farm in Asa village, located in Ido Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the farm in large numbers, accompanied by over 300 cattle, and carried out what was described as an unprovoked and brutal attack.
Confirming the incident, the Okelade of Okelade, Oba Wahab Olabamiji, said Oladosu was on the farm with one of his daughters when the attackers, armed with dangerous weapons, overpowered and killed him.
He revealed that one suspect has been arrested and handed over to the police, while others remain at large.
Speaking during a visit to the Olubadan’s palace in Ibadan, Oba Olabamiji expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity in the area, noting that residents now live in constant fear.
“Our people can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed,”, adding that herders have not only encroached on farmlands but have also become a serious threat to lives.
In response, Oba Ladoja confirmed he had summoned the state Commissioner of Police, who assured him that investigations were ongoing and that justice would be served.
The police also pledged to apprehend the remaining suspects and prevent further attacks in the community.
