An APC chieftain has reportedly been hospitalised following an alleged assault involving a member of the House of Representatives in Ibadan.
Hon. Gafar Oyebade, a party leader in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, claimed he sustained injuries after an encounter with Hon. Olafisoye Akinmoyede, who represents the Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency and is also a member of the APC.
According to Oyebade, the incident occurred on Monday at the party’s state secretariat in the Oke Ado area of Ibadan. In a statement, he explained that he had been invited by the APC State Secretary, Hon. Fatai Adesina, to discuss and resolve tensions stemming from the recently conducted local government congress in the area.
Oyebade alleged that during the meeting, Akinmoyede and his associates attacked him, leaving him injured. He said he was beaten, harassed, and threatened, adding that the matter has been reported to the Iyaganku State CID and that he is currently receiving medical treatment.
He recounted that upon arrival, he met Akinmoyede alongside others, including Fatai Awoyoola and Wale Bello. He claimed tensions escalated after he objected to sitting without his leaders present, and that the situation turned violent during a meeting in the state chairman’s office.
However, Akinmoyede has denied the allegations. Through his legislative aide, Dr. Isiaq Akintunde, he confirmed that a meeting took place to address internal party disputes but insisted that no physical confrontation occurred.
He stated that the meeting was aimed at resolving disagreements over Oyebade’s role within the party, noting that while Oyebade claimed to be the local government party secretary, official records list him as the Public Relations Officer.
