A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Olufemi Ajadi, has declared his intention to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, promising to consolidate on the current administration’s achievements if elected.
Ajadi made the declaration on Tuesday in Saki during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Saki City Hall, where party members and community leaders gathered to receive him.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Ajadi said his administration would prioritise continuity by building on the developmental strides recorded under Makinde’s leadership. He noted that sustaining ongoing projects across the state would form the cornerstone of his governance agenda.
“I will leverage on the developmental projects of the present administration and ensure they are expanded to benefit more people across the state,” he said.
The aspirant also outlined plans to improve workers’ welfare, pledging prompt salary payments on or before the 25th of every month. He added that retirees would receive due attention under his leadership, assuring that pension obligations would be handled more efficiently.
Ajadi further promised that his administration would deliver the dividends of democracy to all parts of the state. As part of his engagement strategy, he disclosed plans to embark on a statewide tour covering all local government areas to better understand grassroots challenges and needs.
Seeking the support of party stakeholders, Ajadi expressed confidence in his ability to secure the PDP gubernatorial ticket, citing what he described as growing backing from party leaders and members.
On the possibility of defecting if he fails to clinch the party’s ticket, the aspirant dismissed such speculation, affirming his loyalty to the PDP.
“I remain committed to the PDP. I am not considering leaving the party for any other platform,” he said.
Ajadi maintained that consultations and consensus-building efforts were ongoing, expressing optimism that he would emerge as the party’s candidate for the governorship election.
