The Nigeria Police Force has paraded 50 suspects linked to a range of serious crimes, including terrorism, kidnapping, and armed robbery, in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough in ongoing security operations.
At a press briefing held on April 13, 2026, at the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) headquarters in Abuja, police officials disclosed that the arrests followed coordinated operations targeting high-profile criminal networks across the country.
According to the Force, operatives recovered a cache of weapons and equipment, including 17 rifles of various models, one anti-aircraft launcher, 111 rounds of live ammunition, 17 live cartridges, nine magazines, and five walkie-talkie communication devices. Other items seized include three vehicles and mobile phones believed to have been used in coordinating criminal activities.
Police said the operations, conducted between January and April 2026, led to the dismantling of several criminal cells that had long posed threats to national security. Among the notable achievements was the takedown of a 33-member gang allegedly responsible for terrorism-related activities, cattle rustling, and a violent attack on a church in Kwara State.
The Force also confirmed the arrest of suspects linked to the killing of three police officers in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State, describing it as a significant step toward justice for fallen personnel.
In the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding states, police operatives reportedly disrupted criminal groups involved in so-called “one-chance” abductions, car burglaries, and the operation of fake checkpoints. Authorities noted that these actions have reduced threats to residents while enabling the recovery of stolen assets.
In a related development, officers acting on intelligence arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Nasiru Ibrahim, in the Igumale area of Benue State. He was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and eight rounds of live ammunition. Investigations revealed alleged links to a suspected bandit known as Janari, who is believed to have supplied the weapon. Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fugitive and dismantle the wider network.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to enhancing national security, stating that the arrests and recoveries underscore the agency’s determination to combat criminality.
He added that several suspects will soon be charged in court, while investigations continue to track down additional accomplices and illegal arms.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its pledge to uphold the rule of law and safeguard citizens, emphasizing the use of both human intelligence and technology in staying ahead of criminal elements.
