The Grand Chief Imam of Saki, Sheikh Abdazeez Jeje-Kunmi, has publicly endorsed the chairmanship aspiration of Sarafadeen Lateef Abiola (Esquire), popularly known as Onijo, describing him as the most suitable candidate to lead the LGA.
The endorsement was made on Friday during the congregational Jumat service, where the revered Islamic cleric offered prayers for the aspirant and urged political stakeholders to rally behind his candidature ahead of the forthcoming LG election.
Addressing worshippers, Sheikh Jeje-Kunmi extolled Onijo’s contributions to the development of Saki, portraying him as an illustrious son of the community whose commitment to public service has translated into tangible projects and initiatives.
According to the Chief Imam, Onijo has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities through the facilitation of impactful developmental projects and humanitarian interventions, earning him widespread admiration across the community.
“Onijo is a worthy ambassador and an illustrious son of Saki who has continued to distinguish himself through remarkable achievements and monumental projects that have positively impacted our people,” the cleric said.
He further declared that the Muslim community had unanimously adopted the aspirant as its preferred candidate, insisting that his endorsement reflected a collective decision reached by the Islamic faithful in the town.
“He is the best man for the job. He understands the needs and aspirations of our people, and we believe he possesses the vision and capacity to move Saki to greater heights. His candidature enjoys the unanimous support of the Muslim community,” Sheikh Jeje-Kunmi stated.
The Islamic leader appealed to political leaders, party stakeholders and those responsible for selecting the party’s standard-bearer to give due consideration to Onijo’s credentials, expressing confidence that his emergence would usher in a new era of sustainable growth and inclusive governance.
“We appeal to all critical stakeholders and those entrusted with the responsibility of choosing the party’s candidate to support Onijo. We equally pray for his victory at the polls so that he can lead Saki to the next level of greatness,” he added.
The endorsement is expected to further bolster Onijo’s political standing as consultations and strategic alignments gather momentum ahead of the Oyo State LG elections scheduled for the end of the year. Political parties are expected to conduct the selection of their chairmanship candidates on December 5, 2026.
