Two individuals who were kidnapped have managed to escape from a bandits’ hideout located in a wooded area of Ifelodun Local Government Area in Kwara South. Their escape was facilitated by a violent internal conflict among the gang members, which created an opportunity for them to flee, as confirmed by various local and security sources.

The victims made their escape on Thursday when a dispute among the kidnappers escalated into a violent confrontation. Seizing the moment of chaos, they navigated through several nearby communities and villages before finally reaching safety.

A security source informed SaharaReporters on Friday that the two abductees successfully took advantage of the turmoil that erupted in the camp when gang members turned their weapons on each other.

“Two abductees escaped from the bandits’ hideout yesterday after an internal conflict broke out among the kidnappers. They utilized the confusion to flee,” stated a security source.

“They later traversed several communities in the vicinity before finding safety. Their stories have also been confirmed by local sources.”

“Witness testimonies and intelligence gathered post-incident indicate that the violent clash may have been instigated by disputes over the distribution of proceeds from their criminal activities, leadership conflicts, or other internal rivalries typical within organized kidnapping groups,” the source added.

Security sources noted that the information provided by the escapees could be vital in ongoing efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks operating in the forests of Kwara South and surrounding regions.

The victims are anticipated to offer investigators crucial intelligence regarding the camp’s location, its layout, the number of armed individuals present, their movement patterns, logistics, and other operational details that could assist security agencies in planning rescue operations and targeting the hideout.

This incident occurs amidst ongoing security concerns in parts of Kwara South, where communities have consistently raised alarms about the activities of armed kidnappers operating from secluded forest areas.
