••says his second term is God’s Will, not a do-or-die affair
The Minority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly and member representing Irepo State Constituency, Hon. Waliu Salami, popularly known as Wele, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to remain patient, resilient and united as the party intensifies efforts to reclaim power in Oyo State in the 2027 general elections.
Salami made the appeal on Saturday while speaking with journalist at the funeral rites of the late mother of Kishi-born civil engineer, Engr. Olufemi Alao, held in Saki.
The lawmaker reminded APC faithful that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had controlled the affairs of Oyo State for the past seven years, stressing that reclaiming the state’s highest political office would require perseverance, discipline and unwavering loyalty from party members.
According to him, the party’s collective interest should take precedence over individual ambitions, noting that internal cohesion remains indispensable to the APC’s electoral success.
“It is better to manage political disagreements while in government than to contend with them from the opposition. Our immediate priority should be to reclaim the Government House in 2027. Once the APC returns to power, there will be greater opportunities for party members, particularly those at the grassroots, to benefit from the dividends of democracy,” he said.
Salami assured party members that ,an APC administration would be responsive to their aspirations and would ensure that committed members are adequately recognised and accommodated where necessary.
He further disclosed that, the party’s governorship candidate had pledged to fully implement local government autonomy, describing the commitment as a critical step towards deepening grassroots development and strengthening democratic governance across the state.
Speaking on his political future, the Minority Leader dismissed suggestions that securing a second term in the Assembly was a matter of desperation, insisting that his re-election bid rests entirely on divine providence.
“My second-term ambition is by the will of God. It is not a do-or-die affair,” he stated.
