As the power company across the country is facing intense criticism, dwellers of Saki community in Oyo State have raised their concerns about the unstable power supply and estimated billing system that has left them frustrated and financially strained in 2024.
The criticism has sparked widespread outrage, with many Saki residents taking to social media to express their displeasure. Some have even started calling the power company to scrap the estimated hefty billing system and install prepaid meters instead to give room for accountability and transparency.

They said the community has continued to experience frequent power outages, leaving residents without electricity for weeks on end despite promises of improved electricity supply
“The power supply is very unreliable. We can’t even plan our daily activities because we don’t know when the power will go out.”
They narrated how the estimated billing system has resulted in exorbitant electricity bills, with many residents claiming they are being charged for power they did not use.
“The estimated billing system is a scam. “I’ve received bills for thousands of naira, but I know I didn’t use that much electricity for the period.”, a business owner.
“I always roam the streets to charge my phone and Laptop as a result of the erratic power supply and some of us find it difficult to read in the midnight leading to mass failure of students of the area”, a student lamented.
However, they are calling on the power distribution company to address the issues of unstable power supply and estimated billing, and to provide a reliable and affordable electricity supply starting from 2025.
“We’re tired of being left in the dark in Saki and being charged for power we didn’t use.”
The power distribution company has incessantly promised to look into the issues and provide a solution, though citing Powerline as the crux of the matter but residents remain skeptical.
The company is also used to defending its estimated billing system, saying it’s necessary because many residents don’t have prepaid meters. However, residents argue that this is no excuse for the inaccurate and inflated bills they’re receiving.
As the residents continue to lament the unstable power supply and estimated billing, it remains to be seen whether the power distribution company will take concrete steps to address their concerns next year.
As at the press time ,all efforts to connect with the management of the company on the phone proved abortive.
