2027: NDC courts Obi, Kwankwaso with joint ticket, gives duo 2-week window to join party

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is making moves to attract key opposition figures, former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, into a possible joint ticket arrangement.

In a post shared on X, the party hinted at a narrow window for both politicians to join its platform before its primary deadline.

The message, which featured an image of Obi and Kwankwaso shaking hands with the caption “Nigeria will be OK,” has intensified speculation over ongoing coalition talks within the opposition.

The development came amid broader efforts by opposition actors to consolidate ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 general election.

Meanwhile, supporters of the two politicians have been promoting the “OK Movement,” a mobilisation campaign advocating a strategic alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso as presidential candidate and running mate.

The movement is said to be gaining traction across various regions.

On the recent Ibadan opposition summit, where parties resolved to field a single presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027, it was gathered that the NDC was invited but unable to attend due to short notice.

Sources indicated that despite its absence, the party remains engaged in ongoing consultations and alignment efforts ahead of the elections.
