The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives Primary Election Committee in Oyo State, Prof. Mojeed Alabi, has declared that the party’s primary elections across the 14 federal constituencies in the state were conducted peacefully, transparently, and credibly.
Prof. Alabi made this known on Saturday during a press briefing held at the APC State Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, where he reviewed the conduct of the exercise.
He stated that the primaries were successfully concluded without incidents of violence, disruption, or formal complaints, adding that party members demonstrated discipline, maturity, and commitment throughout the process across all 351 wards in the state.
According to him, a total of 74 aspirants for the House of Representatives tickets were cleared to participate in the exercise across the 14 federal constituencies, while only five out of the 12 senatorial aspirants were cleared for the contest.
Prof. Alabi explained that monitoring teams were deployed across the state to observe proceedings, noting that the exercise was largely hitch-free.
“We have gone round today to monitor the exercise and it has been hitch-free. We are ensuring that the process is smoothly conducted. The outcomes will be collated and forwarded to the National Secretariat,” he said.
He added that any grievances arising from the primaries should be formally submitted to the party’s Appeal Committee, which has been established to handle such matters in line with internal democratic procedures.
Prof. Alabi commended the conduct of APC officials across the state for adhering strictly to the party’s electoral guidelines, stressing that fairness and transparency were evident throughout the process.
He further noted that aspirants and their supporters demonstrated commendable sportsmanship before, during, and after the exercise, a development he said contributed significantly to the peaceful atmosphere recorded across all constituencies.
The committee chairman also expressed satisfaction with the logistics and coordination arrangements put in place for the primaries, describing the exercise as a reflection of the party’s readiness ahead of future elections.
In the same vein, he applauded security agencies for maintaining law and order during the exercise, stating that their professionalism helped prevent any form of intimidation, violence, or electoral malpractice.
Prof. Alabi urged all aspirants and party stakeholders to embrace unity and reconciliation in the aftermath of the primaries, emphasizing that cohesion within the party would be critical to securing victory in future elections.
Among those present at the briefing were the APC State Chairman, Chief Moses Adeyemo; the APC Zonal Monitoring Committee Chairman, Chief Ayo Afolabi; and other senior party officials.
