Ijabah Picks Oyo North Senate Form Over ‘28-Year Exclusion,’ Pushes Equity

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Hussaini Yusuf Ijabah, has formally entered the race for the Oyo North Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections after obtaining his expression of interest form.

Ijabah said his decision to contest was driven by what he described as a 28-year political exclusion of the Kisi/Irepo/Olorunsogo axis from the district’s senatorial representation since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999.

The APC stalwart, who hails from Ward 3 in Kisi, Irepo Local Government Area of Oyo State, said the Irepo/Oorelope/Olorunsogo Federal Constituency remains the only bloc within Oyo North yet to produce a senator in nearly three decades of democracy.

He described the situation as a structural imbalance that must be addressed through a fair and inclusive political arrangement.

“This is not about personal ambition; it is about correcting a long-standing imbalance. For nearly 30 years, a major section of Oyo North has been left out of senatorial representation. That gap must be addressed,” Ijabah said.

He added that his aspiration is anchored on the need to promote fairness, inclusiveness, and balanced representation across the senatorial district.

Ijabah also appealed to APC leaders and stakeholders in Oyo North to support equitable power rotation, insisting that such a move would strengthen unity and deepen democratic participation across the district.
