
National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the Ondo State Government to prioritise the provision of modern equipment and resources to security agencies to improve the security of lives and properties in the state.
According to NANS , provision of modern equipment for security will not only boost the security agencies ability to effectively protect lives and properties but also strengthen the rule of law and ensure the safety of all citizens.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, NANS JJC, Ondo axis, Oluwarotimi Tobiloba and the Deputy Coordinator NANS Southwest (ZONE-D), Naheem Adegoke, NANS commended the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi for his proactive efforts in combating insecurity in the state.
NANS in the statement urged the governor to consider implementing community policing initiatives that promote collaboration between the police and local communities.
“We call on the Ondo State Governor, His Excellency Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to support CP Afolabi’s initiatives by providing adequate funding and equipment to the police and other security apparatus in the state. As part of our collective efforts to combat insecurity in Ondo, we urge the governor to prioritize the provision of modern equipment, training, and other resources to our security agencies. This will not only bolster their ability to effectively protect lives and properties but also strengthen the rule of law and ensure the safety of all citizens
“Furthermore, the effectiveness of our security agencies is directly correlated to the tools they have at their disposal. To ensure the police can effectively protect the citizens of Ondo State, we implore His Excellency Governor Aiyedatiwa to provide the necessary resources, including new patrol vehicles, drones, and other essential equipment.
“In addition to providing equipment and training, we urge the governor to consider implementing community policing initiatives that promote collaboration between the police and local communities. Such programs not only strengthen security measures but also foster trust and understanding, leading to a more cohesive and resilient society.
“We applaud CP Afolabi’s swift and bold actions, including the strategic appointment of skilled security experts to address the ongoing challenges. His efforts serve as a beacon of hope for Nigerian Students in Ondo State and the citizens of Ondo is a testament to his commitment to protecting lives and properties.
“We also want to use this medium to applaud the decision of CP Afolabi to promote CSP Funmilayo Odunlami to the position of DPO at Ijapo Police Station. CSP Odunlami has demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment, and communication skills in her role as the PPRO of the Ondo State Police Command.
“We believe CSP Odunlami’s elevation to DPO will contribute greatly to the security and peacekeeping efforts in the state. Her ability to connect with the community, maintain transparency and accountability, and prioritize the safety of all citizens aligns perfectly with the values of NANS JCC Ondo Axis. We commend CP Afolabi for recognising CSP Odunlami’s outstanding service and entrusting her with this important responsibility.
“We also extend our warmest congratulations to the newly appointed PPRO, Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola. We believe his professional experience and integrity make him an excellent choice to serve in this vital role. We urge the PPRO Olushola to continue building on the foundation laid by CSP Odunlami, fostering transparency and communication between the police and the community they serve.
“The security of our students and all citizens is paramount to NANS JCC Ondo Axis. We reiterate our commitment to collaborate with security agencies and the state government to ensure a safe and secure environment for all. Our efforts to collaborate with security agencies and the state government are not merely symbolic gestures; they are tangible actions that speak to the urgency of our shared goal. We believe that by pooling our resources and working together, we can create a more secure and harmonious environment for all.
“We stand firm in our resolve to continue advocating for the rights and welfare of Nigerian students, while also working hand-in-hand with stakeholders to promote peace, security, and progress in Ondo,” the statement read.
