Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has said it will take a miracle to revive the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to its former glory.
In an interview with Channels Television on Sunday night, Fayose spoke on the lingering effect of the PDP’s defeat in the 2023 elections which he said is still haunting the party.
He answered questions on the party’s internal crisis and said beyond the electoral loss, “the arrogance of a few” within the leadership has deepened the crisis in the party.
In his words, “The elections are over, but the consequences of our loss is still affecting the party. Mismanagement and the arrogance of a few is also playing out. It’s like they say when the head is sick the whole body is sick. At this point it will require divine intervention or a miracle to bring this party together again.”
On the suspensions and counter suspensions going on among party leaders, Fayose said it has gone beyond that much needs to be sorted out.”
“How can PDP move forward from this?” Fayose asked, saying key stakeholders must reconcile and learn from their mistakes to rebuild.
“The challenges are many and everyone must start to reflect. If we don’t move beyond our past we won’t have a future. Right now we are still being haunted by our past,” he said.
PDP is in crisis and there’s no end in sight. Last Friday Fayose described the situation in the party as getting more dramatic.
This came after a faction of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) suspended the acting Chairman, Umar Damagum and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu for alleged disloyalty.
Another faction loyal to Damagum suspended the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade and National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba for the same reason.
In a twist Ologunagba suspended both Damagum and Anyanwu.
