Oyo Alaafin Forum Seeks Ministerial Slot, Backs Tinubu’s Reforms

A pro-monarchy group, the Oyo Alaafin Forum, has commended President Bola Tinubu for what it described as bold economic reforms, while urging him to address regional imbalance in federal appointments by selecting the next ministerial nominee from Oyo Town in Oyo State.

In a statement issued in Abuja and signed by its Chairman, Segun Owolabi, the forum praised the administration’s fiscal policies, including exchange rate unification and subsidy rationalisation. The group said the measures were beginning to stabilise the economy, improve investor confidence, and inspire renewed optimism among Nigerians.

“The President’s reform agenda reflects a decisive commitment to repositioning Nigeria’s economy for sustainable growth,” the statement read, noting that early indicators suggest progress toward macroeconomic stability.

The forum also applauded the President’s recent directive requiring political office holders with declared ambitions to step down from their positions. It described the move as a strong signal of adherence to democratic principles and accountability in governance.

Reacting to developments in Oyo State’s representation at the Federal Executive Council, the group acknowledged the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, expressing confidence that a successor would be appointed in accordance with constitutional provisions.

However, the forum used the opportunity to call for what it termed a correction of a longstanding imbalance in ministerial representation from the state. It argued that Oyo Town and its surrounding communities had been overlooked for over two decades, despite repeated nominations from other zones such as Ibadan, Ogbomosho, and Saki.

“Oyo Town has consistently been excluded from ministerial consideration, which raises concerns about equity and inclusiveness,” the group stated.

It maintained that appointing a qualified indigene from Oyo Town would not only address the perceived imbalance but also strengthen public trust in the Federal Government’s commitment to fairness.

The forum expressed optimism that the President would consider its appeal, describing such a move as one that would promote unity and reinforce the principles of equitable representation.
