The Oyo State Government has greenlit the disbursement of ₦153.5 million in bursary allowances to indigenes of the state currently enrolled in the Nigerian Law School. This move is part of the Governor Seyi Makinde administration’s broader policy to support professional education and human capital development.
The Secretary of the Oyo State Scholarship Board, Mr. Amos Akinyanju, confirmed the development during a briefing in Ibadan on Wednesday. He disclosed that the funds are designated for 307 students from the 2024/2025 regular set, representing an individual grant of ₦500,000 per beneficiary.
“The approval of this bursary is a testament to the state’s commitment to easing the financial burden on our students across the seven accredited law campuses in the country,” Akinyanju stated.
To facilitate the payment process, the Board has announced a four-day physical screening exercise at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Agodi, Ibadan. The exercise will run from Monday, April 27, to Thursday, April 30, 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m. daily.
In a statement e-signed by the Commissioner for Information,Prince Dotun Oyelade, the government urged all eligible students to adhere strictly to the stipulated dates. The administration emphasized that the bursary is intended to cushion the rising cost of legal education and ensure that Oyo State continues to produce top-tier legal professionals.
The Board has provided a dedicated help line (08062563729) for students seeking further inquiries regarding documentation and requirements for the screening.
This latest intervention follows a series of educational reforms by the current administration, which has prioritized scholarship and bursary awards for indigenes in specialized fields of study.
