The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Irepo, Olorunsogo and Oorelope Local Government Areas of Oyo State has reaffirmed its total loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde, declaring support for the party’s alliance with the Allied People’s Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party leaders also dismissed claims by a former chairman of Irepo Local Government, Alhaji Santana, that he emerged as the PDP candidate for the House of Representatives through a primary election allegedly conducted in the federal constituency.
Speaking on Sunday, the PDP chairmen in the three councils ,Mr. Kunle Adewoyin (Irepo), Alhaji Safariyu Oyelowo (Olorunsogo) and Mr. Paul Adeyemo (Oorelope) described the purported primary as “kangaroo” and “a joke taken too far.”
The chairmen stated that members of the PDP across the federal constituency had fully embraced the PDP-APM alliance and were committed to delivering massive votes for candidates produced through the coalition in 2027.
According to them, “the leaders and members of the PDP in Irepo/Olorunsogo/Oorelope Federal Constituency are solidly behind Governor Seyi Makinde and fully support the alliance between the PDP and APM.”
“In what would appear as the joke of the month, we saw a video showing Alhaji Santana claiming that PDP held its primary in Irepo Local Government and that he was moving to other local governments to conduct same,” the chairmen said.
“We want to clearly state that the kangaroo primary allegedly held in Kisi was a huge joke and should be ignored by the general public.”
They maintained that no official PDP primary had been conducted in the constituency and insisted that any claim suggesting otherwise was false and misleading.
The party leaders further disclosed that Mr. Okunrinjeje Abiodun Oni already enjoys the support of PDP stakeholders in the federal constituency pending the conclusion of the internal democratic process within the APM to produce its House of Representatives candidate.
“Once the process is concluded, all members of the party will unite and support Oni alongside all candidates produced through the PDP-APM alliance in the general elections,” they added.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Makinde on Irepo/Olorunsogo/Oorelope Federal Constituency, Alhaji Yusuff Sarafadeen Alani Alwajud, disowned the viral video in which Santana claimed that a PDP primary election was conducted in Oorelope Local Government.
Alwajud said no primary election took place in Oorelope, which serves as the designated collation centre for the federal constituency.
“The PDP in Oorelope Local Government remains firmly behind Governor Seyi Makinde and fully committed to the PDP-APM alliance,” he said.
“Our findings revealed that there were no activities whatsoever at the designated collation centres across the councils, including L.A. Primary School, Igboho, which is the official collation centre for the constituency. This clearly shows that the so-called primary existed only in the imagination of its promoters.”
The Makinde aide said party members in the constituency had resolved to work with the APM and mobilise support for all candidates produced through the alliance in the 2027 elections.
The PDP leaders expressed confidence that the alliance would provide a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“With Governor Makinde as presidential candidate under the alliance, we believe Nigeria can truly be reset and Nigerians liberated from the hardship imposed by the APC government,” they said.
“We have resolved to work tirelessly to ensure massive victories for all candidates that emerge through the PDP-APM alliance in the coming elections.”
