Self-Sponsored Obas Cannot Override Majority Decision- Aseyin

cautions Oke Ogun Monarchs Against Divisive Utterances, Misuse of Social Media

The Aseyin of Iseyinland and Chairman of the Oke Ogun Traditional Council, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III, has warned traditional rulers in Oke Ogun against the misuse of social media and making statements capable of undermining the peace and unity of the region.

In a statement made available personally signed as obtained by 𝗜𝗧𝗩 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 , the monarch reacted to a communiqué reportedly issued by some traditional rulers following what he described as an unofficial meeting held in Okeho.

Oba Adeyeri maintained that the monarchs involved lacked the constitutional authority to pass a vote of no confidence on the leadership of the traditional institution in Oke Ogun, alleging that the move appeared politically motivated.

The Aseyin also dismissed allegations of maladministration, misconduct and unilateral decision-making levelled against him, saying the claims would be addressed through appropriate channels in accordance with the rules guiding the traditional council.

“As a royal father and custodian of the culture and traditions of Iseyinland, I have remained committed to promoting socio-economic growth and development in the ancient town,” the monarch stated.

He explained that, as Chairman of the Oke Ogun Traditional Council, he is empowered to engage influential personalities and stakeholders across the country to attract development not only to Iseyinland but also to the wider Oke Ogun region.

Oba Adeyeri cautioned the concerned monarchs against pursuing what he described as selfish interests and divisive agendas.

“Many traditional rulers travel within and outside the country in pursuit of developmental goals for their communities. Therefore, no unauthorized individual should expect me to seek permission before taking steps aimed at improving the lives of my people and residents of Oke Ogun,” he said.

The monarch further stressed that his leadership style since assuming office had remained open, inclusive and respectful of all traditional rulers in the region, noting that he holds every monarch in high regard as custodians of their respective communities.

According to him, the collective progress and unity of Oke Ogun remain paramount.

“The throne of Aseyin occupies a significant position in Oke Ogun, but beyond advocating for the development of Iseyinland, we have continued to promote unity and speak with one voice for the advancement of the entire region. We will not allow a few individuals to drag the zone backward,” he added.

On the allegation that he unilaterally postponed a scheduled council meeting, the Aseyin clarified that the decision was jointly taken by members of the council’s executive, including the secretary, to enable attendance at the empowerment programme organised by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai in Ogbomoso.

He urged members of the public to disregard the communiqué issued after the Okeho meeting, insisting that the position of the dissenting monarchs did not reflect the collective stance of the majority of traditional rulers in Oke Ogun.

The statement reaffirmed the confidence and support allegedly enjoyed by his leadership, particularly at a period of heightened political activities in the state.

“Oke Ogun A gbe wa o,” the statement concluded.
