APC Stalwart George Moghalu Quits Party Ahead of 2025 Anambra Elections

George Moghalu, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) in the ex-President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s, and a ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, has resigned from the party.

His resignation comes after months of speculation about his relationship with the ruling party.

The politician did not disclose the reason for his departure in his formal resignation letter addressed to the APC chairman of Uruagu Ward 1 in Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State. Copies of the letter were also sent to the party’s local government and state chairmen.

The letter titled, “Resignation of Membership of the APC” was dated August 26, 2024.

“I bring you good wishes of my dear family and to formally notify you of my decision to resign my membership of the APC with effect from today, August 26, 2024,” Moghalu wrote.

“It is my utmost desire and expectation that all of us will continue to maintain a cordial relationship that we have built together over the years.

“I wish you and all the members of the party the very best. Please accept, as always the assurance of my best regards.”

Nevertheless, analysts note that a gubernatorial election is shaping up in Anambra State in 2025. While the electoral umpire, INEC, has not formally declared the election dates or resumption of campaigns, politicians interested in the process are already taking strategic positions ahead of time.
