Edo Guber Election: 125,928 New PVCs Collected in 5 Days, INEC Reports

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 125,928 out of 184,438 newly printed Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) have been collected in Edo State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for September 21.

INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja. The collected PVCs represent 68.3% of the new cards issued during the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

This collection rate is the highest recorded by INEC since the introduction of CVR for off-cycle governorship elections in 2015. The distribution, which took place across all 192 wards in Edo State from August 22 to August 26, was achieved through meticulous coordination by INEC.

Olumekun noted that the collection process has now concluded at the Ward level. The PVCs were organized by Polling Units, Wards, and Local Government Areas (LGAs), and a collection register detailing the voters and card availability has been uploaded to the INEC website.

A detailed breakdown of the collection by LGAs is also available on INEC’s website and social media platforms. Collection will continue at all INEC offices in the 18 LGAs of Edo State from August 28 to September 8.

Olumekun urged remaining voters to collect their PVCs from INEC LGA offices and emphasized that cards should not be collected by proxies. Information on the locations of INEC LGA offices is available on the commission’s website.
