OKE-OGUN OBAS AND CHIEFS ASSOCIATION: A CALL FOR CALM, UNITY AND CONTINUED FAITH IN OUR TRADITIONAL INSTITUTION

The attention of the leadership of the Oke-Ogun Obas and Chiefs Association has been drawn to concerns being expressed by members of the public regarding recent developments within the Association.

As the Secretary-General of the Association, I consider it necessary to reassure the good people of Oke-Ogun that there is no cause for alarm. While differences of opinion may arise in the course of managing the affairs of any respected institution, such challenges are neither unusual nor insurmountable. What remains paramount is our shared commitment to the peace, unity, progress and collective interest of Oke-Ogun.

I wish to inform the public that distinguished sons and daughters of the region, respected elders, eminent stakeholders and lovers of Oke-Ogun are actively engaging all concerned parties with a view to bringing the current impasse to an amicable and lasting resolution. Their interventions are guided by wisdom, patriotism and an unwavering commitment to preserving the dignity and unity of our revered traditional institution.

The Oke-Ogun Obas and Chiefs Association has, over the years, remained a formidable platform for advancing the interests of our people. Through unity of purpose and collective leadership, the Association has contributed immensely to the promotion of peace, security, cultural preservation and developmental advocacy across the region. These achievements were made possible because our royal fathers and chiefs stood together as one family with one vision.

It is therefore imperative that we continue to uphold the spirit of brotherhood that has defined the Association since its inception. A divided Oke-Ogun serves no one’s interest. The era of fragmentation and disunity belongs in the past and should remain there. The challenges confronting our region today require greater collaboration, stronger bonds and a united traditional institution capable of speaking with one voice on matters affecting the welfare of our people.

As custodians of the traditions, values and aspirations of Oke-Ogun, our collective resolve is to remain one united body. There shall be no room for splinter groups or parallel associations. The Oke-Ogun Obas and Chiefs Association remains the legitimate umbrella body of our traditional institution, and every effort is being directed towards strengthening its cohesion and effectiveness.

We therefore appeal to all stakeholders and members of the public to exercise restraint, avoid speculation, and refrain from actions or comments capable of inflaming passions. Let us place our confidence in the ongoing reconciliation efforts and allow wisdom, dialogue and mutual respect to guide our actions.

We are confident that, in no distant time, the present misunderstanding shall be laid to rest and our Association will emerge stronger, more united and better positioned to continue its historic role as a beacon of leadership and progress for the people of Oke-Ogun.

May peace, unity and prosperity continue to reign throughout Oke-Ogun.

Signed
HRM Oba Abodunrin Oyetunji Kofoworola Olakanla II, Ph.D fcai, the Aare of Ago-Are,
Secretary-General
Oke-Ogun Obas and Chiefs Association
