Just In: Gunmen Attack AgoAre Community, Shoot Two in Failed Kidnap Attempt

Tension gripped Agoare community in ATISBO LGA of Oyo State on Tuesday night after suspected gunmen shot two persons and attempted to abduct a prominent resident, Toheed Oladoke, popularly known as Iyalaje.

The attack, which occurred around 8 p.m. in the agrarian town in the Oke Ogun axis, was said to have caused panic among residents as gunshots rang out during the operation.

According to multiple sources to ITV newspaper that, the assailants stormed the area and opened fire in a bid to whisk away Oladoke. The attempt, however, failed under circumstances that remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.

At least one person sustained gunshot injuries during the incident, while another victim was also reported wounded, though their identities had yet to be confirmed.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that Oladoke narrowly escaped abduction but did not come out unscathed, as he reportedly suffered injuries and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The attackers were also said to have carted away a yet-to-be-disclosed sum of money from the victim before fleeing the scene.

A community leader, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the incident, confirmed the development, saying, “It is true. It happened around 8 p.m. I have confirmed it.”

As of press time, the whereabouts and medical condition of the other injured victims could not be independently verified.

Efforts to get official reactions from the police and the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, were unsuccessful, as calls to their respective contacts could not field full story.

However, the Chairman of ATISBO LGA, Hon. Bashir Olumuyiwa Alade, said authorities had swung into action to restore calm and ensure justice.

“Efforts are in top gear to arrest the situation. Security has been beefed up to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to book. They will not go scot-free,” he said.

Residents say the incident underscores growing security concerns in parts of the Oke Ogun region, where communities have increasingly called for strengthened surveillance and rapid response mechanisms from security agencies.

No official statement had been issued by law enforcement authorities as of the time of filing this report.
