A prominent political figure from Saki West Local Government Area of Oyo State, Barrister Sarafadeen Lateef,MCArb, popularly known as “Onijo,” has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Onijo, alongside his supporters, announced the decision in a statement made available to this newspaper on Thursday, describing the development as part of the “new political wind” blowing across Oyo State.
He explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with constituents, political associates, and well-wishers across the state, adding that the move reflected the aspirations of the people and the prevailing political realities in Oyo State.
The former PDP stalwart, however, emphasized that his resignation from the party should not be misconstrued as opposition to the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
According to him, he and his supporters remain firmly committed to Governor Makinde’s leadership style, developmental vision, and the continuity of the Omituntun 3.0 agenda in Oyo State.
“Our loyalty and commitment to the leadership and developmental vision of Governor Seyi Makinde remain sacrosanct,”.
“This decision is purely a political realignment borne out of wide consultations and in line with the aspirations of the people Governor Makinde represents.”, Onijo stated.
Describing the development as a “political exodus,” Onijo noted that the move was driven by conviction and the desire to align with evolving political dynamics in the state.
While expressing appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities and relationships built during his time in the party, he said he remained grateful for the experiences gained while working with the party’s leadership and members.
“I appreciate the platform the PDP provided for us and the relationships built over the years. I wish the party and its leadership well in all future endeavours,” he added.
He also wished the PDP and its leadership success in their future political engagements.
