Traditional rulers across the old Ifedapo area of Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State on Saturday held a stakeholders’ meeting aimed at fostering peace, unity and collaboration among traditional institutions, while also expressing support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s recent security measures in the state.
The meeting took place at the palace of the Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi, and was attended by prominent traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders from across the area.
Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, the Onitede of Tede, Oba Abdul Rauf Adebimpe, said the gathering was convened to strengthen peaceful coexistence among traditional custodians and promote collective efforts towards the development and security of Oke-Ogun communities.
According to him, the meeting provided an opportunity for traditional rulers to exchange ideas, deliberate on common challenges and chart a unified path for the progress of the region.
“It is important for us to live peacefully and work together. The purpose of this meeting is to bring traditional rulers together to rub minds, strengthen our relationships and promote unity among our people,” he said.
Oba Adebimpe stressed the need for concerted efforts and sustained collaboration among traditional institutions, community leaders and government agencies in addressing security and developmental concerns.
The monarch also endorsed the Oyo State Government’s newly introduced restrictions on the operations of commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known as okada operators, describing the policy as a necessary step towards enhancing security across the state.
Governor Seyi Makinde had, through an Executive Order issued on Friday, announced restrictions on commercial motorcycle operations between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. as part of measures to curb criminal activities and improve public safety.
In a related development, the Head of Hunters in Oyo State, Pa Samson Alabi Ojo-Awo, called on residents to support security agencies and community-based security outfits, noting that security remained a collective responsibility.
He urged members of the public to cooperate with relevant authorities in the ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
Ojo-Awo also commended the Okere of Saki, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi, for his continued support for local security operatives and community security initiatives in the area.
The stakeholders’ meeting concluded with renewed commitments by traditional rulers and security stakeholders to work closely together in promoting peace, stability and development throughout the Oke-Ogun region.
