Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, has unveiled a comprehensive scorecard of his constituency projects and legislative activities, highlighting interventions in infrastructure, healthcare, education, employment, social welfare and lawmaking since assuming office in June 2023.
The lawmaker said the initiatives, anchored on the theme “Leadership. Service. Impact.”, were aimed at improving the quality of life of constituents and promoting sustainable development across the district.
According to the report made available to ITV Online, infrastructure development has remained a major priority, with more than 5,000 solar street lights installed across strategic roads, markets and residential communities in Ibadan, Ibarapa and other parts of the senatorial district. The projects, spanning 46 locations, are expected to enhance security, stimulate economic activities and improve nightlife in benefiting communities.
The senator also listed the provision of 41 motorised and solar-powered boreholes, transformer installations, financial assistance to 25 communities and the construction of modern public convenience facilities in Oja-Oba and Agodi Gate markets as part of efforts to improve access to clean water, sanitation and electricity.
In the area of social intervention, the scorecard indicated that food items were distributed to over 3,000 widows, traders and vulnerable residents across the district. It added that roofing sheets were donated to rehabilitate stalls destroyed by fire at Sango Market, while members of the Hausa community at Sabo also benefited from relief materials.
On healthcare, the lawmaker highlighted the upgrading of primary and comprehensive health centres in Ibadan and Ibarapa, ongoing construction of new health facilities, medical outreach programmes in underserved communities and the distribution of sanitary pads to more than 3,500 students to promote menstrual hygiene and school attendance.
The report further stated that, Senator Alli facilitated employment for 100 constituents into various federal agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigeria Police Force, Federal Inland Revenue Service, National Bureau of Statistics and other institutions, while additional employment opportunities are being pursued in several federal establishments.
In education, the senator listed the establishment of ICT centres in schools, installation of solar power systems, renovation of facilities at the University of Ibadan, sponsorship of WASSCE coaching classes, payment of examination fees for 100 students and scholarship awards to outstanding students.
On the legislative front, Alli said he sponsored bills seeking reforms in corporate governance, healthcare, pension administration, leadership development and professional regulation, including a bill proposing the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Igbo-Ora.
He also highlighted motions on the immortalisation of the late designer of Nigeria’s national flag, Taiwo Akinkunmi; the Bodija explosion; workers’ welfare; unpaid salaries of University College Hospital workers; infrastructure deficits; and national heritage.
