Nigeria Customs Seizes Contraband Worth Over N3 Billion in Oyo-Osun

The Oyo-Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a large cache of contraband goods, including firearms, pharmaceuticals, drugs and other prohibited items, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) exceeding N3 billion.

Speaking during a media briefing, the Acting Controller of the Command, Wale Moses Adewole, attributed the successful operation to sustained intelligence-driven strategies, enhanced collaboration with other security agencies, and the commitment of officers and men of the command.

The seized items include three firearms, smuggled rice, illegal pharmaceutical products, used shoes, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), ammunition and other prohibited goods. Adewole described the seizures as a major breakthrough in the command’s ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and safeguard the nation’s economy and public health.

The Customs boss also disclosed that the command generated more than N28 billion in revenue between March and May 2026, representing an eight per cent increase compared to the amount collected during the corresponding period last year.

As part of inter-agency cooperation, the command handed over seized drugs and pharmaceutical products to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further investigation and necessary action.

Adewole reiterated the command’s resolve to intensify operations against smugglers and ensure that illicit products do not find their way into communities.

Representatives of NAFDAC and the NDLEA commended the Customs Service for its vigilance and continued collaboration in tackling the circulation of illegal drugs and other harmful products.

The event also featured the presentation of awards to outstanding officers in recognition of their dedication and exceptional performance in the line of duty.
