The Emir of Ilesha Baruba in Kwara State, His Royal Highness, Prof. Halidu Ibrahim Abubakar Sabi Derekureku IV, has expressed deep sorrow over the recent attack on the palace of the Emir of Yashikira and the wider Yashikira community in Baruten Local Government Area.
In a sympathy message addressed to the Emir of Yashikira, His Royal Highness Amb. (Dr.) Alhaji Umar Sariki Usman, Sabi Kpasi II, the monarch described the incident as a painful assault on the peace, dignity, and cultural heritage of the community.
“I received with a heavy heart the distressing news of the attack on your palace and the Yashikira community,” the Emir stated.
Speaking on behalf of the Ilesha Baruba Emirate Council and the people of Ilesha Baruba, Prof. Halidu conveyed his condolences to the Emir of Yashikira, his family, and residents affected by the attack.
He noted that an attack on a traditional institution represents more than physical destruction, stressing that it threatens the identity and unity of the people.
“An attack on the palace is an attack on the dignity, history, and peace of the entire community you represent,” he said.
The Emir also offered prayers for the victims of the incident, asking Almighty Allah to grant strength and wisdom to the people of Yashikira during the difficult period. He prayed for the safe return of those reportedly abducted during the attack and for healing for those injured.
“We pray for the safety and safe return of all those who were captured. May Allah protect them from harm, ease their ordeal, and reunite them with their families unharmed,” the statement added.
Prof. Halidu further emphasized solidarity among communities in Kwara North, assuring the people of Yashikira that they were not alone in their grief.
“Yashikira is part of Kwara North, and the pain of your people is the pain of all of us. We stand with you in solidarity and in prayer,” he said.
The traditional ruler also called on the Federal Government, Kwara State Government, and security agencies to intensify efforts toward restoring peace and guaranteeing lasting security in Yashikira, Baruten, and other vulnerable communities across Kwara North.
He stressed that protecting lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government and urged authorities to take decisive measures against insecurity in the region.
The Emir concluded his message with prayers for peace, protection, and stability across Kwara State and Nigeria at large.
