FUNATO to Hold Maiden Matriculation Ceremony for Pioneer Students

The Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUNATO) is set to make history on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, as it conducts its first-ever matriculation ceremony, formally admitting its pioneer students into the institution.

The landmark event, scheduled to take place at 11:00 a.m. on the university campus, marks a significant step in the development of the newly established institution, which is poised to advance agricultural innovation and technological education in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, and Management, the Vice Chancellor, Olaniyi Jacob Babayemi, described the occasion as a defining moment in the university’s journey. He noted that the matriculation not only symbolizes the official induction of the first cohort of students but also reflects the institution’s commitment to its motto, “Knowledge and Service.”

As part of the ceremony, a keynote lecture titled “Navigating the University for Success: It’s Your Turn” will be delivered by Adeyinka Abideen Aderinto, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Ibadan. The lecture is expected to provide guidance and inspiration to the newly admitted students as they begin their academic journey.

The Registrar and Secretary to Council, Amuni Mohammed Olayinka, who serves as the contact person for the event, confirmed that preparations are in top gear to ensure a successful ceremony.

The establishment of FUNATO reflects ongoing efforts to expand access to specialized higher education in agriculture and technology, sectors widely regarded as critical to Nigeria’s economic diversification and food security goals.

The university’s emblem, featuring a cogwheel, a rising sun over green hills, and a water element, underscores its mission to integrate technological advancement with agricultural sustainability.

Wednesday’s ceremony is expected to draw dignitaries from academia, government, and the local community, as FUNATO begins what many anticipate will be a transformative chapter in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
