Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has nominated two individuals for appointment as commissioners and forwarded their names to the Oyo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The nominees, Dr. Lateef Idowu Oyeleke and Barrister Ayobami Oluwaseun Ojo, were presented in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House and dated under reference number SP/S.663/2/VOL. III/436.
In the correspondence, Governor Makinde urged the lawmakers to conduct a thorough but speedy screening process in line with constitutional provisions.
“I write to notify the Honourable Speaker and Members of the House of my desire to present the following individuals for screening and confirmation for appointment as Commissioners in our State,” the governor stated.
He listed the nominees as Dr. Lateef Idowu Oyeleke and Barrister Ayobami Oluwaseun Ojo.
The governor noted that the nominations were made pursuant to Section 192 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which empowers state governors to appoint commissioners subject to legislative approval.
Makinde further expressed confidence that the House would give the request its “usual kind and expeditious consideration.”
Dr. Oyeleke previously served as Commissioner for Environment in the state, while Ojo is a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, where he represented Saki East/Atisbo State Constituency.
The development is expected to strengthen the state executive council as the administration continues the implementation of its policies and programmes across key sectors.
